PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Amin Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lisa Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Amin Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lisa Day!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Day, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Day against the cage but Day circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Day gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Day decides to pull guard.

Day pushes Smith off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Day scores with a head kick.
Day displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smith.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Amin Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith falls off balance throwing a combination
and Day counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Day closes the distance and clinches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Day manages to break the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
You can see the frustration on Day's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Day sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Day really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Day tries to kick Smith off but Smith keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Day sees it coming and defends easily.
Smith is looking to advance position but Day won't allow it.
Day desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith slips a nice elbow through Day's hands, connecting with Day's forehead.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Smith trying to advance position but Day counters by regaining guard.
Day wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Day has his hands on Smith's head, controlling the position.
Smith wants to control from the top but Day keeps moving.
Day pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.
Smith preventing the sweep.
Smith won't allow Day to get back to his feet.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Lisa Day wasn't active enough on the ground.
Day shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense.
Day looks gassed!
Day changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Day manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Day looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nice takedown defense from Day. No joy for Smith on that attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Day shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Day tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Day manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Day shoots in.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smith wants to control the pace but Day is squirming around nicely.

Smith looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Day wants to hold on but Smith pushes him away.

Smith is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Day is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Day flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Smith anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Day and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Smith slips an arm under Day chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Smith has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Smith is squeezing on Day like an anaconda would it's prey. Day fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Amin Smith!
