PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleksander Lens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Rogov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lens comes to the cage accompanied by End of Days. Rogov has chosen Theme Song as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Lens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Rogov!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lens walks into a stiff left hand from Rogov.


It looks like Aleksander Lens has been cut.
Lens misses with a takedown attempt - Rogov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rogov throws a right hand that Lens ducks under and follows up with a left that Lens also avoids with ease.
Lens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rogov pinned against the cage. Rogov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleksander Lens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rogov throws a right hand that Lens ducks under and follows up with a left that Lens also avoids with ease.
Lens shoots in but Rogov avoids the takedown attempt easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rogov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lens controls the pace.

Lens tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rogov paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Lens closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Lens seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rogov for as long as he can get away with.

Rogov tries to clinch but Lens is having none of it.

Lens bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Aleksander Lens overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We're going to have a standup here because Aleksander Lens wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Rogov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lens shoots for a double leg takedown but Rogov sprawls well. He's pushed Lens's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rogov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lens is fending him off so far but Rogov persists. Nope, Lens circles away and we're back to standing.

Lens throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rogov was covering up waiting for the punch and Lens finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Lens is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Rogov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lens defends well.
Rogov can't keep his opponent in guard - Lens advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lens lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lens dives in and grabs Rogov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rogov pushes down on Lens's head and hops out.
Rogov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Alexander Rogov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lens is defended easily by Rogov.
Rogov throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Rogov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rogov defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lens.

Rogov gets caught napping as Lens dives in and scores a takedown. Rogov manages to retain guard.

Lens slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lens's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Lens passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Rogov looking for a sweep but Lens has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Lens has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rogov's face.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lens tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Lens lands a heavy elbow.

Lens goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rogov turns into him and now he's in Lens's guard.
Lens wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rogov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

and Lens moves into the clinch.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Lens here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Rogov wants to break the clinch but can't.
Alexander Rogov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lens, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
