PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Storm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arturro Affi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Storm comes into the arena with ThunderStruck blaring out of the sound system. Affi has chosen Men at work - Land of down under as his entrance music. Arturro Affi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Storm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Arturro Affi!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Affi swinging wildly here.
Affi moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Affi.
Affi scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Storm tries to clinch but Affi moves out of range.
Arturro Affi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Storm.
Affi throws a low kick, looking for Storm's leg but Storm calmly moves out of range.
Affi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Affi tries a low kick but Storm avoids it.
Affi misses with the combination.
Affi moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Storm will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Storm on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Affi throws a series of punches but Storm moves out of range.
Storm fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Storm. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Storm shoots in and bounces Affi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Storm is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Affi is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Affi has escaped and now he's on top!

Storm is looking for a triangle but Affi pushes his legs off easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Storm escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Affi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Storm has his foot on Affi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Affi works his way back into a safe position though.

Storm working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Affi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Affi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Storm is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Affi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Storm has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Affi has managed to get both his arms back between Storm's legs - danger averted.
Affi stays in close to Storm's body and controls the position.

Affi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Storm is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Affi defends well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Affi throws a nice looking combination but Storm bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Storm shoots for a takedown but Affi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

No joy there for Affi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Affi lands with a kick to the ribs.
That kick from Affi tenderised Storm's leg. Storm is trying to keep his angry face on.

A punch combination from Affi misses.
Affi throws a series of punches but Storm avoids them all with ease.
Affi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jim Storm is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nice takedown defense from Affi. No joy for Storm on that attempt.

Storm gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Affi.
Arturro Affi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Affi misses with a body shot.
Affi feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Storm's calf.
Affi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Storm moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Storm dodges the punch combination from Affi.
Affi throws a leg kick but Storm sees it coming and moves out of range.
Affi throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Affi leaves Storm with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Affi moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Affi pushes Storm away with a front kick.
Affi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice sprawl there from Affi as Storm shoots in.
Storm misses with a takedown attempt - Affi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Storm fails to land the takedown.
A slapping leg kick lands for Affi.
Affi will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Storm.
Affi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Storm shoots in but no luck this time.
Affi lands a nice leg kick that just misses Storm's sensitive parts.
Storm is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Storm looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Affi is fending him off so far but Storm persists. Nope, Affi circles away and we're back to standing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Storm fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Affi thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Storm if he has to take too many more of those.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arturro Affi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Storm shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Storm dives in and grabs Affi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Affi pushes down on Storm's head and hops out.
A left and a right from Affi both land. Nice combination.
Affi falls off balance throwing a combination

and Storm counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Storm is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Affi still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Affi has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Affi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Affi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Storm works his way to full guard. Good work.

Storm is looking for a triangle but Affi pushes his legs off easily.

Storm had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Affi defends it easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Storm is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Storm is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Affi is aware though and is defending well.

Affi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Affi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Affi wants to control from the top but Storm keeps moving.
Jim Storm overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Storm escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Affi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Storm can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Affi controls the pace.
Affi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Let's hope that Affi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Affi has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Storm to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Affi is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Storm pulls down on the head and he's put Affi to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jim Storm!
Our winner, Jim Storm, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
