Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikhail Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edson Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edson Mendes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mikhail Kalashnikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edson Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kalashnikov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mendes to the mat! Mendes manages to get full guard.
Kalashnikov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Kalashnikov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mendes looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mendes looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mendes!
Kalashnikov tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Kalashnikov is trying to get back to half guard.
Kalashnikov is trying to work for a sweep but Mendes has mounted him!
Kalashnikov slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kalashnikov lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.

Mendes is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Mendes is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Kalashnikov has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kalashnikov wants to improve his position but Mendes is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kalashnikov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kalashnikov is trying to hold Mendes in close to prevent damage but Mendes has managed to pass into half guard.
Kalashnikov tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kalashnikov wants to get back to full guard.
Kalashnikov lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Kalashnikov manages to get to full guard.
Kalashnikov trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kalashnikov is on top in guard.
Kalashnikov working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mendes's head.
Kalashnikov trying to control but Mendes is working from the bottom.

Kalashnikov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kalashnikov has gone for a leg lock! Mendes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kalashnikov's guard.

Kalashnikov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kalashnikov tries to get out of the position.
Kalashnikov looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mendes puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Kalashnikov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mendes moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Kalashnikov.

Mendes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mendes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikhail Kalashnikov dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Kalashnikov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kalashnikov is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Mendes has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kalashnikov is looking to defend but Mendes has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kalashnikov! Mendes pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kalashnikov taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Edson Mendes!
