PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Skjelbred (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Cappo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Skjelbred comes into the arena with Bad To The Bone blaring out of the sound system. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Skjelbred!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ray Cappo!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cappo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like John Skjelbred has been cut.
A lazy left from Cappo finds it's target.
Skjelbred throws a low kick, looking for Cappo's leg but Cappo calmly moves out of range.
Cappo fails to land with a series of punches.
Skjelbred fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Cappo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Skjelbred circles away quickly and effectively.
Skjelbred really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Skjelbred throws the left hand but Cappo avoids the punch easily.
John Skjelbred seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Skjelbred fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Skjelbred throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Skjelbred shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cappo's guard.

Cappo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cappo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Skjelbred defends well.

Cappo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Skjelbred doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Skjelbred manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fight stays on the outside here - Cappo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Skjelbred throws a right hand that Cappo ducks under and follows up with a left that Cappo also avoids with ease.

Skjelbred changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cappo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Skjelbred is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cappo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Cappo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Skjelbred's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Skjelbred's back!

Skjelbred manages to reverse the position and now he's in Cappo's guard. Nice work there by Skjelbred.

Cappo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Skjelbred swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cappo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Skjelbred, up you get!

Skjelbred ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Skjelbred throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cappo escapes and throws Skjelbred's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Cappo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Skjelbred does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Cappo is looking to take a break and control but Skjelbred is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cappo is pushing down on Skjelbred's leg trying to pass to half guard. Skjelbred is fighting to maintain full guard but Cappo has managed to sneak the leg through.

Cappo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Cappo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Skjelbred is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cappo has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Skjelbred tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cappo wants to take a breather but Skjelbred manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Cappo.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ray Cappo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Cappo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Ray Cappo misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
