Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ulysses Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Arona (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grant getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
A clash of legs there as Arona blocks the low kick.
Grant leaves Arona with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Grant tries to work over Arona's front leg with a kick but Arona checks it.
Grant displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Arona.

Arona shoots in and gets a takedown into Grant's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Grant is pulling down on Arona's head to control his posture.
Grant has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Grant is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Arona has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Grant is proving hard to escape from.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Grant is pulling down on Arona's head. It's preventing any offense from Arona, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ulysses Grant.
Arona shoots in looking for a takedown but Grant manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Arona's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Ulysses Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricardo Arona.
Arona checks a leg kick nicely.
Grant thows a body kick. Arona tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Arona drops his hands momentarily and Grant takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

It looks like Ricardo Arona has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Arona tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Arona looks gassed!
Grant will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A solid leg kick lands there for Grant.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Grant.
Grant wants to land a leg kick but Arona is out of range.
Arona fails with a takedown attempt.
Grant lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Grant just misses with a punch to the body.
Arona walks into a straight right hand from Grant.
Grant fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Arona.
A solid leg kick lands there for Grant.
Ulysses Grant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grant throws a chopping leg kick but Arona manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
A slapping leg kick lands for Grant.
Grant throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Arona moves out of range of the body kick from Grant.
Grant lands a leg kick that knocks Arona off balance momentarily.
Grant throws a good cross that connects.

Grant sends Arona crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Grant is motioning to the referee to let Arona up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Grant bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Arona's head backwards.
Grant lands a nice leg kick that just misses Arona's sensitive parts.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Grant.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Grant cracks Arona with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Arona looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Grant finish him?

Arona is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Grant feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Arona crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ulysses Grant!
After winning the bout, Ulysses Grant thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
