The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karpov drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bauwens keeping full guard, as Karpov tries to pass.

Karpov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Karpov trying to control the position from guard on top but Bauwens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Karpov pushes down on Bauwens's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Karpov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bauwens is just riding it out for now. Karpov eventually gives up the hold.

Karpov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Bauwens is trying to maintain the position but Karpov is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bauwens tries to kick Karpov off but Karpov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Karpov works his foot free and advances to mount.
Karpov is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Bauwens is in real trouble.

Karpov working for a choke but Bauwens is defending well.

Karpov is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Bauwens with him. Bauwens is trying to defend but Karpov has an arm under the chin now! Bauwens grimaces and is forced to tap out!
