PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Cooperman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toa Kiuga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kiuga is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Wish. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Cooperman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Toa Kiuga!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooperman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cooperman throws a jab when Kiuga was well out of range.
Cooperman works Kiuga's body with a nice hook.
Kiuga thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kiuga throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cooperman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kiuga fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cooperman looks to throw the jab but Kiuga is out of range.
Kiuga throws a nice looking combination but Cooperman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kiuga tries to clinch up.
Kiuga tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cooperman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kiuga swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cooperman misses with a body shot.
Cooperman missing with a left hand there. Kiuga was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Kiuga lands a body shot in the clinch.
Cooperman is trying to force a seperation but Kiuga has the dominant position.
Cooperman is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Kiuga scores with a hook to the body.
Kiuga digs a right hand underneath Cooperman's ribcage. Cooperman let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Cooperman is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kiuga is stalling here.
Cooperman tries to break the clinch but Kiuga is controlling the position.
Kiuga lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
A nice left hand lands by Kiuga.
Kiuga works on Cooperman's body with a couple of short punches.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kiuga takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
The crowd are getting on Kiuga's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Kiuga lands a nice uppercut.

Kiuga has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cooperman uses from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Kiuga looking for a sweep. Not yet Kiuga, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiuga pulls Cooperman in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Max Cooperman wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cooperman throws the left hand but Kiuga avoids the punch easily.

Kiuga bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Cooperman! He dives into his guard looking to finish!


It looks like Max Cooperman has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kiuga accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kiuga controls from within his opponent's guard.
Kiuga postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kiuga throwing strikes from guard but Cooperman blocks nicely.
Kiuga makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kiuga throws a big right hand that misses.
Kiuga wants to control from the top but Cooperman keeps moving.
Cooperman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kiuga controls the pace.

Kiuga postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kiuga is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cooperman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kiuga on the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kiuga with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kiuga distracts Cooperman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kiuga working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cooperman working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kiuga.

Kiuga passes Cooperman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kiuga in particular looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toa Kiuga dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Max Cooperman's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Oh, that's a big right hand from Kiuga and Cooperman goes tumbling to the canvas! Kiuga follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kiuga trying to control the action but Cooperman is working from the bottom.
Kiuga lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Cooperman quite badly. Cooperman pulls Kiuga in close trying to recover. Kiuga postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Cooperman on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Cooperman doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Toa Kiuga!
