The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laitinen scores with a jab.

Laitinen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stevens gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Laitinen is looking for a triangle here but Stevens uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Laitinen is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stevens tries to clinch there but Laitinen circles away.
Laitinen cracks the inside of Stevens's front leg.

Stevens slaps away a takedown attempt from Laitinen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Laitinen closes the distance and clinches up with Stevens, looking for a takedown. Laitinen pushes Stevens against the cage but Stevens circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A slow jab from Laitinen misses its intended target.
Laitinen throws a right and a left that Stevens avoids nicely.
Laitinen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Laitinen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Stevens misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Stevens tries to clinch up but Laitinen circles away and keeps his distance.
Laitinen misses with a looping left.
Laitinen lands a really nice looking cross but Stevens seems unphased.
Stevens doesn't manage to clinch there - Laitinen circles away.
Stevens checks a leg kick nicely.

Stevens drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stevens postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Laitinen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Stevens wants to stand but Laitinen is controlling his posture from full guard.
Stevens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laitinen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stevens is looking to work some ground and pound but Laitinen has wrist control.
Stevens throwing strikes but missing.

Laitinen working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Stevens has passed into half guard!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Stevens stands up and beckons Laitinen to join him on the feet.
Laitinen throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Stevens counters with a head kick.

Stevens gets a clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Laitinen pulls guard.
Laitinen wants to sweep here but Stevens controlling him for the moment.

Stevens stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Laitinen throws up his legs and catches Stevens in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Stevens tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Laitinen! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Ville Laitinen!
After the fight, Ville Laitinen was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
