The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nohara throws an overhand right that lands on Nelson's shoulder, as Nelson tries to avoid the shot.
Nohara scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Nohara lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nohara throws a body punch but Nelson moves out of range.

and Nohara counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nelson's guard now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Nohara fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nelson sprawls well initially but Nohara persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Nohara is looking to take a break and control but Nelson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nelson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nohara wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Hiro Nohara wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Nelson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Nohara has Nelson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Nohara pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Nelson tumbling to the mat - Nohara dives into Nelson's guard.

Nelson parries the strikes from Nohara easily there. Nohara is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Nelson to escape.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hiro Nohara overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nohara bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nelson's guard.
