PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Rueda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Kye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dan Rueda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nathan Kye!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kye dodges the punch combination from Rueda.
No luck for Kye with that takedown attempt.
Nice defenses there by Kye.
Kye throws a head kick but Rueda moves out of range.
Left hook, right uppercut from Rueda.
Kye tries to close the distance and clinch but Rueda swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kye stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kye wants it to stay on the feet.

Kye gets tackled into the cage by Rueda. Rueda maintains the clinch.
Kye is working for takedown but Rueda is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kye keeps control of Rueda as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rueda misses with a knee strike.

Kye works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kye gets to his feet. Rueda looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Rueda gets tackled into the cage by Kye. Kye maintains the clinch.
Kye tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Dan Rueda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Kye.
Kye is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Kye wants the takedown. Rueda is fighting it off but Kye persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rueda's guard against the cage.

Kye gets to his feet - Rueda follows without any prompting.

Kye closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kye looks gassed!
Rueda is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rueda wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rueda avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kye.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rueda wants to get back to his feet.
Kye sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rueda defending well though.
Kye prevents Rueda from standing back up.
Kye seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rueda does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kye is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nathan Kye hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Rueda misses with a hook. Kye ducked under it nicely.
Rueda blocks a head kick by Kye.
Rueda tries to clinch up but Kye circles away and keeps his distance.
Rueda is looking to clinch.

Rueda closes the distance and pushes Kye back into the cage.
Rueda tries to pull guard but Kye won't allow it.

Kye is trying to trip Rueda. He has hold of a leg but Rueda is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kye persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Kye stands up from Rueda's guard - Kye perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rueda swinging wildly here.
Rueda scores with a punch to the head.

Kye shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rueda's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kye trying to control but Rueda is working from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rueda is on top in guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kye is pulling down on Rueda's head to control his posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Kye dominated that round.
That's time! Rueda's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rueda cracks a nice hook into Kye's ribs.
Rueda tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kye manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rueda checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Kye misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rueda throws a sloppy head kick and Kye moves out of range easily.
Kye on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Dan Rueda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A left lands for Rueda.

Kye rushes Rueda and presses him up against the cage.
Rueda fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Kye is trying to pull guard but Rueda has him pressed against the cage.
Kye lands a right hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rueda manages to pull guard.
Rueda utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kye looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Rueda can't keep his opponent in guard - Kye advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Rueda tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Kye has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Rueda squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kye controlling his opponent.
Kye is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kye wants to control the pace but Rueda is squirming around nicely.
Rueda wants to hold on but Kye pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kye takes Rueda's back.

Kye has his arm under Rueda's chin here. Game over son! Kye squeezes tightly and Rueda is forced to tap out!
