Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carl Gregson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Rizal!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gregson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rizal wants to get back to full guard.

Rizal shoots in looking for a takedown. Gregson tries to sprawl out of it but Rizal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gregson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Rizal is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Gregson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Gregson for a finish.

Rizal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gregson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rizal tries to score with some ground and pound. Gregson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Rizal thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Rizal is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gregson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gregson shrugs it off.

Rizal is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gregson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jose Rizal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Rizal throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gregson's waist but Gregson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rizal off to one side.

Rizal has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gregson uses from the top position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rizal cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Rizal wants to finish this one by submission but Gregson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rizal.

Gregson is bucking up trying to escape but Rizal cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Rizal is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Gregson is defending well though. Rizal let's go of the attempt for now.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Gregson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gregson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
