PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gennady Vieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mark Pain has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mark Pain seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Pain.
Vieira slaps away a takedown attempt from Pain, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Vieira tries to bum rush Pain with a series of wild strikes but Pain uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Vieira wants to clinch up but Pain keeps it at a distance.

Pain closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pain lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vieira can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gennady Vieira wasn't active enough on the ground.

Pain throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vieira was covering up waiting for the punch and Pain finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Pain drops back looking for a leg! Vieira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vieira manages to kick Pain off! Pain jumps back into Vieira's guard.

Pain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pain is in close to Vieira's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Vieira is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pain is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vieira swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Pain lands a jab to Vieira's midsection.

Pain shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vieira's guard.

Vieira is looking to stand up but Pain isn't so interested in that idea.
Pain keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vieira's head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vieira lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pain!

Vieira throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Pain is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Vieira's half guard.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Pain here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Pain is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Vieira sees it coming and defends easily.

Pain is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vieira is just riding it out for now. Pain eventually gives up the hold.

Oooooh, big shot lands for Pain! Vieira is hurt baaadly! Pain is firing away with more strikes - Vieira is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
