PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Winchester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russell Shachar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Shachar's choice of entrance music: sandstorm. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shachar tries to keep at a distance but Winchester has taken the fight into the clinch.

Winchester pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Shachar prevents Winchester from getting back to his feet.
Shachar preventing the sweep.
Winchester looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Winchester trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Shachar controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Shachar being controlled here momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Winchester wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Winchester is looking to clinch.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Shachar!

Shachar tries for a takedown but Winchester circles away easily

so Winchester counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Winchester content to stall in guard here.

Winchester gets to his feet. Shachar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Winchester throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Shachar tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Winchester is in Shachar's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shachar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Winchester controls the pace.
Shachar wants to sweep but no luck.
Winchester content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Winchester wants to control from the top but Shachar keeps moving.

Shachar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Winchester is one step ahead there.
Winchester is stalling in the full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Winchester.
Shachar blocks a leg kick.

Winchester clinches up against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Shachar is fighting off a takedown attempt but Winchester is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Shachar to the mat. Shachar regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Shachar working for a triangle but Winchester defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Winchester gets to his feet. Shachar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Shachar moves in looking to clinch but Winchester pushes him off.
Winchester shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shachar as he avoids it easily.
Winchester tries to close the distance and clinch but Shachar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Winchester has managed to clinch.
Shachar tries to pull guard but Winchester holds him up against the cage and eventually Shachar drops back down to his feet.

Winchester jumps guard.

Winchester looking for a guillotine here but Shachar defends easily.
Winchester working a defensive guard here.
Shachar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Winchester. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Winchester is adopting a defensive guard.
Winchester lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shachar!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Winchester shoots in for a takedown but Shachar shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Winchester closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Winchester prevents Shachar from improving his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Winchester trying to pass the guard but Shachar defending well.
Shachar tries to get to full guard but Winchester has control of the leg.
Winchester not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Winchester is thwarting Shachar's attempts to control the position.
Winchester thows a huge punch but Shachar dodges it nicely.
Winchester moves nicely into side control.
Shachar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Winchester wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Shachar can't do much from the bottom here.
Winchester moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Shachar is looking for a sweep.

Winchester just content to control the position.
Winchester passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Shachar!
Shachar wants to control but Winchester is having none of it.
Winchester landing strikes from the mount and Shachar is in trouble!

Winchester scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Winchester sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Shachar reaches up to try and control the position but Winchester seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Shachar rolls and tries to escape and now Winchester has his back!
Winchester is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Winchester has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Shachar is in real trouble here. Winchester gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Shachar is tapping out! Winchester wins by rear naked choke!
