Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Toby Garcia !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Nguyen!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nguyen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nguyen shoots in for a takedown but Garcia shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Nguyen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Toby Garcia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Nguyen.
Nguyen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Garcia swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nguyen clinches.
Nguyen prevents the takedown attempt.
Garcia letting Nguyen take a breather here.
Garcia drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Nguyen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Garcia jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nguyen walks away with a smile on his face. Garcia gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nguyen dives in and grabs Garcia 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Garcia pushes down on Nguyen's head and hops out.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Nguyen fails with the takedown
and Garcia counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Nguyen!
Garcia prevents Nguyen from getting the reversal.
Garcia throwing strikes here but Nguyen is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Garcia swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Nguyen is now in Garcia 's guard. A big mistake from Garcia there, giving up the dominant position!
Garcia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Garcia tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Garcia working for a triangle but Nguyen defends it easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Garcia has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Nguyen should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Garcia has tightened it up now! Nguyen should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
