Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Renton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Primo Self (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renton comes to the cage accompanied by Underworld - Born Slippy. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Renton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Primo Self!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Self sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Self throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Renton lunges at Self with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Self's hand.
Self looks to score with a jab to the body but Renton is just out of range.
Renton changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Renton keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Self throws a push kick but Renton slaps the foot to one side.
Self uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Renton.
Horrible takedown by Renton or perhaps it was just good defense by Self which made him look bad.
Renton scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Self misses with a wild body shot.
Mark Renton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Renton ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Self moves away.

Self is trying to push Renton away but Renton has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Self is pressed up against the cage. Renton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Self down to the mat. Self avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Self ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Self throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Renton.

Self throws a shot from downtown. Renton moves away and avoids it.
Sloppy strikes from Self. Those never looked like landing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Renton keeps control of Self as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Self is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Self has had enough of the clinch but Renton keeps him there for the moment.
Self wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Renton drops down looking for an ankle pick but Self pulls his leg out and moves away.
Self will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Renton sizes up Self with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Renton thows a body shot but no joy.

Self misses with a few strikes there.
Renton misses with a looping left.
Self misses with a wild combination.
Self lands with a slapping head kick.
Renton connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Self works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Renton ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Self moves away.

An inside leg kick lands from Self.
Self throws a series of punches but Renton avoids them all with ease.
Self missing with a left hand there. Renton was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Self throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Renton lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A right-left combo lands from Renton.
Renton swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Renton will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Self uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Renton.
Renton connects with a good right hand that stumbles Self. Self circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Self throws a nice looking combination but Renton bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Renton throws a jab when Self was well out of range.
Self walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Primo Self is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Renton throws out a loose jab but Self uses good head movement to avoid it.
Renton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Self.

Self takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Self throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Renton closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Self did well to prevent Renton getting side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Self is trying to stand up here but Renton is controlling him well.
Renton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Renton takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Renton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Renton wants to free his trapped foot but Self is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Renton stops Self from getting back to his feet.
Self has hold of Renton's hands but Renton slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Renton is trying for a kimura here. Self looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Renton wins by kimura!
