PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Williams!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Williams looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Davis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davis is looking to improve his position.
Davis is doing well to control the position and prevent Williams from advancing to side control.

Williams is looking for a kimura but Davis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Williams to get the leverage.

Williams is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Davis to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Williams blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Davis turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Check out the look on Davis's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Williams is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Davis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Davis's back!

Davis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Williams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Davis has managed to get both his arms back between Williams's legs - danger averted.

Williams looks for a takedown but Davis sprawls well.
Davis connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Williams wants to control the pace but Davis is squirming around nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
