PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Evan D (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rolad Kjeldsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rolad Kjeldsson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Evan D!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rolad Kjeldsson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kjeldsson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
D avoids a punch combination nicely.
D closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kjeldsson circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from D.
D throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kjeldsson's waist but Kjeldsson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing D off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Evan D. That's going to take a lot out of him.
D throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

D looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kjeldsson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kjeldsson wants to control but D is keeping busy and won't allow it.
D is trying to control the action in half guard but Kjeldsson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kjeldsson is looking for a sweep. D is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kjeldsson is not content to let D control the position.
D throwing shots but Kjeldsson is blocking nicely.
D missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Kjeldsson makes his way to full guard, as D worked for a kimura.
D throwing strikes but missing.
Kjeldsson keeping moving, preventing D from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
D is in close to Kjeldsson's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
D is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
D throws a big elbow that misses.
D postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kjeldsson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
D trying to control but Kjeldsson is working from the bottom.
D trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

D is working hard here to advance position.
D throws a big elbow that misses.
D postures up.
Kjeldsson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
D trying to control the position from guard on top but Kjeldsson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kjeldsson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
D with a nice head shot there.
Kjeldsson controlling D's posture.
D in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kjeldsson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in D's guard.
Kjeldsson wants to control from the top but D keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rolad Kjeldsson wasn't active enough on the ground.
D shoots in for a takedown but Kjeldsson shows good takedown defense.
D shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
D moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
D avoids the head kick by Kjeldsson.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
D wants to slow Kjeldsson down by chopping away at his legs.
D throws a leg kick which misses Kjeldsson's front leg but catches the back leg as Kjeldsson tries to avoid it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
No joy there for Kjeldsson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
D will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Evan D dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


D uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kjeldsson.
D tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kjeldsson is able to avoid easily.
Rolad Kjeldsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kjeldsson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
D shoots in for a double leg but Kjeldsson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
D misses with a few strikes there.
Kjeldsson misses with a series of wild punches.
Kjeldsson looks to land a right hand but D moved out of range.
D on the wrong end of a nice jab.
D takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
D shoots in and drives through. Kjeldsson sprawls well.
D throws a sloppy head kick and Kjeldsson moves out of range easily.
D swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
D misses with a body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
D needs to keep his hands up - Kjeldsson had a free shot at his head there.
D takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
D misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
D's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kjeldsson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! D scrambles back to his feet.
Evan D is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kjeldsson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kjeldsson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Kjeldsson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Rolad Kjeldsson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kjeldsson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
D shoots in but Kjeldsson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Evan D. That's going to take a lot out of him.
D throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Kjeldsson cracks D with a good jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kjeldsson punishes D's body with a nice straight punch.

D on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
D fails with the takedown.
D gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Kjeldsson throws a shot to the body.
D shoots in but Kjeldsson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kjeldsson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kjeldsson.
Kjeldsson thuds his right hand into D's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
D shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kjeldsson pinned against the cage. Kjeldsson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kjeldsson throws a body punch but D moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kjeldsson takes a swing at D's ribcage but misses.
D has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kjeldsson finds it's way round the side to connect with D's head.
Kjeldsson connects with a good right hand that stumbles D. D circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Kjeldsson throws a right hand that D ducks under and follows up with a left that D also avoids with ease.
D fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kjeldsson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Kjeldsson!


D is rocked!
Kjeldsson is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Kjeldsson shuts the power down on D. Lights out, game over! Kjeldsson is your winner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Rolad Kjeldsson!
Rolad Kjeldsson took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
