PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lleyton Stiels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stiels comes to the cage accompanied by Breakdown by breaking Benjamin. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lleyton Stiels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank White!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White looks for a takedown but Stiels sprawls well.
White looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Stiels moves in looking to clinch but White pushes him off.

Stiels shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Stiels takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Poor strikes thrown by Stiels there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Stiels throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Stiels unloads with some shots from mount but White bucks and avoids them well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stiels misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Stiels has control of White's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and White regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Stiels sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Stiels throws some wild stikes that White manages to avoid easily.
Stiels takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Stiels tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Stiels is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. White can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Stiels thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Stiels seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down White for as long as he can get away with.

Stiels throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

White is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


White fails with the takedown.
Stiels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. White tries to avoid it but Stiels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag White to the ground. White escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Frank White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
White takes a knee right on the jaw!
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Stiels obliges.

Stiels pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Stiels closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
White is breathing heavily.
Stiels is trying to work for a single leg takedown but White pulls him back up using the underhooks.
White is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Stiels gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Lleyton Stiels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank White.

Stiels breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Stiels scores with a head kick.
Stiels tries a head kick but it misses.

Stiels closes the distance and pushes White back into the cage.
Stiels lands a good knee to the midsection. White won't want to take too many of those.
Stiels lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Stiels gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Stiels pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stiels lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as White backs up against the cage.

Stiels just leaning against White, taking a breather.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stiels breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Stiels throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent White stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

A bit of stalling here from Stiels.

Stiels breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
White keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Stiels scores with a three punch combo!
Stiels fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

and Stiels counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Stiels moves into the clinch successfully.
Stiels connects with a nasty looking knee right to White's face.
Stiels stops a takedown attempt from White.
Stiels lands a good knee to the midsection. White won't want to take too many of those.

Stiels's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
White fails with a takedown attempt.
Stiels scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. White doesn't seem bothered though.

White shoots and misses

and Stiels holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Stiels ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Stiels no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
White throwing strikes but missing.
Stiels wants to sweep here but White controlling him for the moment.
White trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
White wants to control from the top but Stiels keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stiels wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stiels wants to get back to his feet but White is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

White has Stiels pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Stiels manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

White closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stiels circles away.
White stuffs the takedown attempt from Stiels. Stiels gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lleyton Stiels. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stiels throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
White swats away the attempt to clinch by Stiels.
Stiels keeps White at a distance using the push kick.

Stiels gets control of White's arms and successfully pulls guard. Stiels will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Stiels wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
White looking to sit in guard and control but Stiels gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stiels has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of White is proving hard to escape from.

Stiels seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

White has a closed guard, preventing Stiels from standing up.
Stiels trying to control the position from guard on top but White is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Lleyton Stiels wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Stiels has White up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Stiels.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lleyton Stiels showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Stiels has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
