PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mongo Cat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eric Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mongo Cat!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cat with a lazy takedown attempt

and Coleman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cat's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cat wants to stand up but Coleman is controlling him.
Coleman stays in close to Cat's body and controls the position.
Coleman trying to control the position from guard on top but Cat is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coleman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Eric Coleman.
Cat with a poor takedown

and Coleman counters with a single leg into guard. Cat didn't expect that.
Coleman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Cat manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Coleman manages to get himself to full guard.

Cat misses with a head shot. Coleman uses the momentum to regain guard.

Cat keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Coleman's head.

Coleman is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Eric Coleman will probably get the nod.

Cat shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Coleman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cat's guard now.

Coleman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cat swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cat shoots in for a double leg but Coleman sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Eric Coleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mongo Cat.

Coleman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Coleman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Cat dives in and grabs Coleman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Coleman pushes down on Cat's head and hops out.

Cat doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Coleman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Cat scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Cat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Coleman tries to avoid it but Cat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Coleman to the ground. Coleman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cat wants it to stay on the feet.
Cat tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Coleman swivels and escapes.
Coleman tries to clinch there but Cat circles away.

Coleman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cat looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Coleman throws an elbow but Cat slips to the side and avoids it well.
Coleman tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Coleman throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Cat is trying to escape the position but Coleman is controlling the position.
Cat trying his best to control but Coleman has mounted him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coleman tries to control but Cat wriggling away.
Coleman throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Coleman dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Cat has his takedown stuffed

and Coleman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Coleman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Eric Coleman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cat finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Coleman misses with a takedown attempt - Cat sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Cat shoots in and drives through. Coleman sprawls well.

Coleman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cat does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Coleman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
