PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Bond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JJ JJ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Bond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, JJ JJ!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
JJ defending well as Bond loads up on a big left hand.
Bond throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

JJ shoots in and bounces Bond off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bond really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

JJ avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bond has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
JJ wants to stand but Bond has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Bond throws his legs up looking for a submission but JJ uses it to pass to side control.
JJ wants to control but Bond is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bond is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked JJ off and has taken his back!
Bond is looking to control JJ but JJ is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Bond not allowing JJ to control his hands.
JJ manages to reverse the position and now he's in Bond's guard. Nice work there by JJ.
JJ controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like JJ might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bond looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
JJ wants to control from the top but Bond keeps moving.
JJ wants to stand but Bond is controlling his posture from full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

JJ got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bond has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, JJ has managed to get both his arms back between Bond's legs - danger averted.

Bond has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but JJ can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
JJ pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bond is keeping the position for now.
JJ throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bond works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bond has an active guard here but JJ has managed to pass into half guard.
Bond is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Bond is pressing down on JJ's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Bond looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
JJ is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bond has a closed guard, preventing JJ from standing up.

Bond looking for subs off his back but JJ has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

JJ is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bond doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time JJ.
JJ is thwarting Bond's attempts to control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bond looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but JJ JJ will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



JJ looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
JJ JJ has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bond pulls JJ in close to prevent any damage.
JJ tries to free his leg and advance position but Bond is retaining full guard.

Bond is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bond working a defensive guard but JJ manages to pass into side control anyway.
JJ controlling the position from side mount.
JJ throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
JJ working away.
Bond manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
JJ is looking to get back to full guard here but Bond has managed to pass to side control instead.
JJ wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Bond trying to control the action but JJ is working from the bottom.
JJ is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Bond off and has taken his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bond turns into JJ and is now in his guard.
JJ is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bond is controlling him.
Bond in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

JJ is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bond defends well.
JJ trying to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

JJ isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Bond stacks JJ on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Bond!
JJ managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Bond.
Bond tries to move to mount but JJ blocks the move with his legs.
JJ gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Bond keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

JJ has one foot on Bond's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Bond ducks down and throws a hook to the body but JJ moves away.

JJ scores with a takedown into Bond's guard.
JJ trying to control the position from guard on top but Bond is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bond working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because JJ has passed into half guard!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bond is looking to control JJ's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bond avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bond is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but JJ pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JJ JJ showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


JJ walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Bond checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Bond gets caught flat footed, as JJ shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

JJ decides to stand up.

JJ shoots in and bounces Bond off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

JJ postures up.
JJ trying to control the position from guard on top but Bond is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
JJ looking to sit in guard and control but Bond gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
JJ pulls Bond in close to prevent any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bond throws a big elbow that misses.

The ref stands the fighters back up. JJ JJ was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Bond throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

JJ shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bond napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bond is looking to regain half guard here but JJ keeps moving and retains side control.
JJ is putting a hurting on Bond here, landing some big shots from side control.

JJ decides to stand back up. JJ steps back and let's Bond get back to his feet.
Bond avoids the body shot from JJ.
JJ moves out of range of the strikes.
James Bond seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

JJ shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bond controlling the position for now.
JJ works his foot free and advances to mount.
JJ moves to the back position.
Bond staying busy and making it hard for JJ to control.
Bond breaks JJ's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bond postures up and lands a big shot to JJ's brow.
Bond trying to control the position from guard on top but JJ is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
JJ wants to get back to his feet but Bond is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
JJ JJ comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well JJ has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
