The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tavares thows a left - swing and a miss!
Alves misses with a straight left.
Alves throws a low kick but Tavares avoids it.
Alves takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

It looks like Danilo Alves has been cut.
Tavares lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tavares steps into range and cracks Alves with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Alves flops backwards and Tavares dives into his guard looking to finish!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tavares looking to sit in guard and control but Alves gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tavares swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alves is trying to ground and pound but Tavares uses the momentary lack of control by Alves to regain half guard.
Alves seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tavares does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Tavares tries to kick Alves off but Alves keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Alves loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Tavares scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Alves land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Alves stands and salutes the crowd.
