The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nguyen closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Spencer quickly recovers to half guard.

Nguyen is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Nguyen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Spencer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nguyen has Spencer in his guard.

Nguyen looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Spencer has picked Nguyen up and slammed him! Nguyen can't keep hold of the triangle and Spencer manages to pass to side control!
Nguyen is not content to let Spencer control the position.

Spencer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Spencer is keen to just control but Nguyen is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
