PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Helppo Heikki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sammy Spishak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spishak has chosen Sleeping with Sirens as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sammy Spishak!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heikki throws a body punch but Spishak moves out of range.
Spishak uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Heikki.
Helppo Heikki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spishak is looking to clinch.

Heikki shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Spishak is trying to defend but Heikki finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Spishak is trying to maintain the position but Heikki is very close to passing his half guard.
Heikki thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Heikki avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Spishak lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Heikki!
Heikki wants to try and get back to his feet.
Spishak can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Heikki is looking to escape.

Spishak thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Spishak lands with some strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Spishak moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Heikki has worked his arm free - good work by Heikki!
Heikki struggling a bit here.
Heikki is looking to reverse the position.
Heikki regains half guard, as Spishak was trying to land strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Heikki controlling the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sammy Spishak will probably get the nod.

Spishak instigates a clinch.
Heikki keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Spishak's efforts to push away.
Spishak's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Heikki lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Spishak breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Heikki. Spishak does a little dance to reset his feet.
Spishak shoots in for a takedown but Heikki shows good takedown defense.

Spishak misses with a takedown attempt - Heikki sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Spishak feints and as Heikki raises his hands in defense, Spishak changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Spishak is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Heikki holds on and takes a little breather.
Spishak throws an elbow that misses. Heikki uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Spishak's guard. Nice move by Heikki!

Heikki got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spishak has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Heikki has managed to get both his arms back between Spishak's legs - danger averted.

Spishak quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Heikki has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Spishak celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
