PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Moralez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russel Shak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Moralez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Russel Shak!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Viktor Lagutenko and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shak moves in looking to clinch but Moralez pushes him off.
Shak keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shak is looking to clinch but Moralez is avoiding it.
Moralez misses with a wild combination.
A leg kick checked by Moralez.
Shak avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Moralez throws a one two combo.
Moralez throws a shot to the body.
Moralez shoots and misses

and Shak decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Moralez's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Shak prevents Moralez from getting back to his feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shak accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shak is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Shak has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Moralez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Shak advances to half guard.
Shak with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Shak wants to free his trapped foot but Moralez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Shak moves into full mount! Moralez won't be happy about that!
Moralez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Moralez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shak stands up from half guard.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Moralez enables Shak to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Moralez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Moralez is breathing heavily.
Shak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shak passes into half guard.
Shak works his way into side control.
Moralez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shak on the ground.
Shak working away.
Moralez really is a fat lump.
A lull in the action here as Shak stalls from top position.
Shak scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Moralez to see if he's OK.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shak takes a little break here. Moralez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Shak cracks Moralez with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Shak controls the position.
Moralez takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shak is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Moralez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Shak passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Moralez!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Shak is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Shak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shak tries to close the distance and clinch up but Moralez swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Shak is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Moralez tries to clinch up.

Shak changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Moralez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Moralez seems a little lost for a moment, as Shak dominates the positioning.

Shak decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Shak moves in looking to clinch but Moralez pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Russel Shak dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Shak closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shak lands in his opponent's guard.
Moralez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shak decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Shak looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Shak performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Moralez is trying to stand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Moralez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shak looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Moralez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Shak scores with a couple of nice shots.

Shak decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Shak scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Shak tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Russel Shak has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shak is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Shak advances nicely into full mount.
Shak controlling from the full mount.
Moralez tries to lock up and control but Shak gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shak works his way to his opponent's back.
Shak loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Moralez hold on?

Shak is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Moralez has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Shak has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Moralez taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Shak doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Russel Shak!
