PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lil Cholo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Staunton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lil Cholo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Staunton!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Staunton closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cholo to the mat! Cholo manages to get full guard.
Staunton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cholo keeping moving, preventing Staunton from controlling successfully.
Cholo wants to stand and escape but Staunton is having none of it.
Staunton tries to free his leg and advance position but Cholo is retaining full guard.

Cholo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Staunton gets control of Cholo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Staunton will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Cholo wants to control from the top but Staunton keeps moving.

Staunton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cholo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cholo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Staunton manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cholo has Staunton in his guard.

Staunton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Staunton decides to pull guard.

Cholo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Staunton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Staunton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Staunton!

Staunton stands up and beckons Cholo to his feet.

Cholo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Staunton.
Cholo throws a right and a left that Staunton avoids nicely.

Staunton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Staunton is looking for a kimura but Cholo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Staunton to get the leverage.

Staunton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Steve Staunton hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Staunton clinches.

Staunton breaks from the clinch.

Staunton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Staunton tries to move to mount but Cholo blocks the move with his legs.

Staunton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cholo keeps working.

Staunton decides to stand back up. Staunton steps back and let's Cholo get back to his feet.

Steve Staunton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Staunton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Cholo is trying to break the clinch but Staunton is controlling him.
Staunton tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cholo smiles and moves away.
Lil Cholo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Staunton.

Well Staunton has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
