Zapata is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tres Delinquentes. Phil Davis has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alejandro Zapata!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zapata swings for the body but Davis moves out of range.
Zapata buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Davis misses with an uppercut. Zapata saw that one coming.
Zapata is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Davis.
Davis throws out a powerful jab.
Zapata wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Davis throws the left hand but Zapata avoids the punch easily.
Zapata moves out of range of the strikes.
Zapata ducks under a wild hook from Davis.
Zapata misses with a wild body shot.
Davis checks a leg kick nicely.
Davis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Zapata manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Davis on his heels. He'll look to pass Davis's guard now, I'm sure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Zapata stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zapata slips nicely into half guard.

Zapata is working for a kimura but Davis is defending it quite comfortably.
Zapata is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Zapata looking to sit in guard and control but Davis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zapata avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Davis advances position into side control!
Zapata is trying to get back to half guard.
Zapata avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Davis.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Davis thows a huge punch but Zapata dodges it nicely.
Davis not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Davis lands a nice short elbow.

Zapata is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Davis jumps into side control!
Davis cracks Zapata with a big right hand but Zapata just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Zapata is looking to regain half guard here but Davis keeps moving and retains side control.
Zapata sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Davis landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Davis missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Zapata looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Zapata is trying to maintain the position but Davis is very close to passing his half guard.

Zapata is trying to get back to full guard.

Zapata looking for subs from the bottom but Davis mounts him!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Davis with good strikes from the mount here!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Davis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!


Zapata is rocked!
Davis postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Zapata in real trouble here! The ref calls for Zapata to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Davis!
