PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Crimson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Crimson!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crimson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lewis as he jumps to the side.
Lewis chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Crimson can pounce on him.
Lewis swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Crimson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lewis avoids it really well and circles away.
Crimson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lewis as he avoids it easily.
John Lewis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Crimson.
The fighters circle momentarily. Lewis darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Lewis misses with a straight right.
Lewis misses with an uppercut. Crimson saw that one coming.
Crimson dives in and grabs Lewis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lewis pushes down on Crimson's head and hops out.
Lewis works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Crimson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crimson tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Lewis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Lewis scores with a shot to the body.
Lewis is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Crimson.
Lewis thows a body shot but no joy.
Crimson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lewis throws the left hand but Crimson avoids the punch easily.

Crimson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lewis's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Crimson won't allow Lewis to sweep him here.

Crimson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Crimson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Crimson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Crimson works over Lewis with some ground and pound from guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Crimson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Crimson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Crimson drops back looking for a leg! Lewis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lewis manages to kick Crimson off! Crimson jumps back into Lewis's guard.
Crimson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lewis is keeping the position for now.

Crimson prevents Lewis from getting back to his feet.
Lewis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Crimson scoring with some ground and pound.
Lewis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lewis working a defensive guard but Crimson manages to pass into side control anyway.

Crimson tries for a kimura but Lewis is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lewis wants to control but Crimson postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Crimson has hold of Lewis's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Lewis tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Crimson cranks the arm and Lewis screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Lewis, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Matt Crimson!
