Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Assange (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Cairo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Assange comes to the cage accompanied by Eddie Van Halen - Eruption. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cairo throws a predictable looking body shot
and Assange counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Cairo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Assange is fending him off so far but Cairo persists. Nope, Assange circles away and we're back to standing.
Assange throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sloppy strikes from Assange. Those never looked like landing.
A looping hook to the body misses from Assange. Cairo does a little dance to reset his feet.
Assange throws a jab when Cairo was well out of range.
Assange ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cairo moves away.

Cairo dives in and scores a takedown into Assange's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Assange is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cairo is controlling him.
Cairo slips nicely into half guard.
Cairo is looking to take a break and control but Assange is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Assange is looking to control Cairo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Assange avoid being mounted?

Cairo is working for a kimura but Assange is defending it quite comfortably.
Cairo passes the guard and advances to mount!

Cairo prevents Assange from getting the reversal.
BOOM! Cairo connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Cairo has control of Assange's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Assange regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Assange is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Assange is bucking up trying to escape but Cairo cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Assange is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Cairo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Assange has worked his arm free - good work by Assange!

Assange is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cairo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Cairo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Cairo wants to work for an arm triangle but Assange is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cairo works his way into full mount!
You get the feeling that Assange really doesn't like being in this position too much.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cairo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Assange turns into him and now he's in Cairo's guard.

Cairo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Assange can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Cairo dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Assange lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Assange throws a big shot that misses.
Assange lunges at Cairo with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Cairo's hand.

and Assange counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Cairo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Assange's guard.
Cairo throws an elbow that misses. Assange uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cairo's guard. Nice move by Assange!

Oh but Cairo is tightening it up a little... Assange has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Assange reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Assange taps out! Nice BJJ there by Cairo!
