Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Taneli Maija (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by whatever. Jose Perez acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Perez!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez tries to clinch but Maija moves out of range.

It looks like Taneli Maija has been cut.
Perez throws a right hand that Maija ducks under and follows up with a left that Maija also avoids with ease.
The fight stays on the outside here - Perez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maija throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Maija throws an overhand right that lands on Perez's shoulder, as Perez tries to avoid the shot.
Maija swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Maija swings for the body but Perez moves out of range.

Perez tries to close the distance and clinch but Maija swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Maija has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Perez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maija. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Maija swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Perez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Maija manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Perez is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Maija gets his way!

Maija throws out a loose jab but Perez uses good head movement to avoid it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Perez is not content to let Maija control the position.

Maija goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Perez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Maija but great work by Perez.

Taneli Maija overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
You can see the frustration on Maija's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Taneli Maija.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Maija, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
