The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rodriguez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kawajiri. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kawajiri bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Kawajiri is trying to maintain the position but Rodriguez is very close to passing his half guard.

Rodriguez decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Kawajiri lands a really nice looking cross but Rodriguez seems unphased.

Kawajiri connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rodriguez's hands.
Kawajiri tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rodriguez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kawajiri is looking for a triangle here but Rodriguez uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
