These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida punishes Silva's body with a nice straight punch.
Silva throws out a leg kick but Machida moves out of range and Silva only half commits.
Silva fails to land with a series of punches.
Machida misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A nice combination there by Silva.
Silva takes a kick to the side of the head.
Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Silva tries a head kick but it misses.
Machida is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
Silva lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Silva.

Matt Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Machida drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Silva manages to work his way to half guard, despite Machida's best efforts.
The fighters are battling for position here. Silva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Silva is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Machida frees his head nicely. Oh but Silva has switched to an armbar! Machida is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
