PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Symon Angelus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaice Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Symon Angelus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kaice Taylor!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Taylor misses with a double jab.
Taylor lands with a kick to the temple. Angelus shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
No luck with that takedown attempt from Angelus.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Angelus checks a leg kick.
Danga de danga de dang - Taylor scores with a four punch combination!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Taylor.
Taylor tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Angelus is able to avoid easily.
Angelus uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Taylor.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Angelus is defended easily by Taylor.
Angelus blocks a head kick by Taylor.
Angelus shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Taylor as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Symon Angelus. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Taylor falls off balance throwing a combination

and Angelus counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Angelus throws a big elbow that misses.
Taylor can't keep his opponent in guard - Angelus advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Still in half guard, Angelus seems content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angelus not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Angelus postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Taylor to stand up.
Kaice Taylor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Angelus throws a body punch but Taylor moves out of range.
Angelus slips under a jab.

Angelus instigates a clinch.
Taylor is trying to break the clinch but Angelus has him pressed against the cage.

Angelus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Angelus has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Taylor uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Angelus.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Taylor tries a head kick but it misses.
Nice body kick there by Taylor.
Taylor swats away the attempt to clinch by Angelus.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Taylor!
Taylor lets loose with a powerful body kick. Angelus will feel that in the morning.
Taylor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Angelus moves away.

Angelus closes the distance and clinches.
Taylor is looking to take this one to the mat.
Taylor tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Angelus avoids it.
Taylor is trying to pull guard but Angelus has him pressed against the cage.
Angelus blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Angelus blocks the elbow strike.
Taylor drops down looking for an ankle pick but Angelus pulls his leg out and moves away.
Taylor looks gassed!
Taylor throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Angelus counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Taylor jumps guard but Angelus turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Taylor is trying to drag Angelus to the mat but Angelus just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Angelus pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Angelus slips under a jab from Taylor.
Angelus throws a series of punches but Taylor moves out of range.
Taylor looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Angelus stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Angelus pushes Taylor up against the cage in a clinch.
Angelus keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Taylor's efforts to push away.
Taylor tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Angelus just stands there and leans against the cage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Angelus has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Taylor uses from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Symon Angelus will probably get the nod.
That's time! Angelus's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sloppy strikes from Taylor. Those never looked like landing.
Angelus looks to score with a jab to the body but Taylor is just out of range.
Taylor throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Taylor misses with a low kick.
Taylor scores with a three punch combo!
Angelus shoots in looking for a takedown but Taylor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Angelus's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Angelus takes the fight into the clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Taylor jumps guard but Angelus stands there with Taylor around his waist. Taylor gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Taylor is looking to break free of the clinch but Angelus has double underhooks.

Taylor fails to pull guard.

Angelus has clasped his hands together around Taylor's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Angelus stands up.
Taylor scores with a body shot.
Taylor swinging wildly here.
Taylor throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Angelus tries for a takedown but Taylor sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Taylor throws a right and a left that Angelus avoids nicely.
A head kick misses from Taylor.
Taylor is breathing heavily.
Taylor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Taylor throws a head kick but Angelus moves out of range.
Kaice Taylor seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Angelus keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Taylor.
Angelus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Taylor tries to avoid it but Angelus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Taylor to the ground. Taylor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Symon Angelus. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Taylor tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Angelus lands a nice looking body shot.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nice straight punches there by Angelus. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Angelus.

Taylor swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Taylor fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Taylor connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Taylor throws a quick inside leg kick.

Angelus moves out of range as Taylor throws a body kick.
Taylor misses with a double jab

and Angelus counters by moving into the clinch.

Taylor breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Angelus takes the fight into the clinch.

Angelus gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Angelus trying to pass the guard but Taylor defending well.
Angelus seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Taylor does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Taylor is looking to control Angelus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Taylor avoid being mounted?
Angelus is trying to control. Taylor wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Angelus passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Taylor!
Taylor is in all sorts of trouble here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Angelus has hold of Taylor's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Taylor manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Symon Angelus dominated that second round.
That's time! Angelus's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Angelus throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Taylor lands a two punch combo.
Symon Angelus is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Taylor is fighting off a takedown attempt but Angelus is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Taylor to the mat. Taylor regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Angelus accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Angelus is looking to work some ground and pound but Taylor has wrist control.
Taylor can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Angelus controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Taylor throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Angelus escapes and throws Taylor's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Angelus swings around for an armbar but Taylor sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Angelus's guard.
Angelus manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Taylor manages to get himself to full guard.

Angelus controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Angelus slips nicely into half guard.

Angelus is trying to work for a kimura but Taylor is defending well.
Angelus looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Angelus thows a huge punch but Taylor dodges it nicely.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Symon Angelus wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Taylor tries to keep at a distance but Angelus has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Angelus lands a knee to the head.
Taylor wants a takedown.
Taylor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Angelus content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Taylor is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Angelus gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Taylor tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Symon Angelus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kaice Taylor.
Taylor jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Angelus walks away with a smile on his face. Taylor gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Taylor gets caught napping as Angelus dives in and scores a takedown. Taylor manages to retain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Angelus is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kaice Taylor has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Symon Angelus is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Angelus seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Taylor for as long as he can get away with.

And that's the end of the fight!
Symon Angelus showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Angelus, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
