PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tchin Fortessi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Mert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mert has chosen Pregador Luo - Bate Pesadão as his entrance music. Matt Mert is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tchin Fortessi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Mert!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fortessi has closed the distance and engaged Mert in a clinch.
Mert's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Fortessi pushes Mert back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mert is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Mert keeps control of Fortessi as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Fortessi tries to circle away but Mert has him pinned against the cage.

Fortessi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mert avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Fortessi really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Mert remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Matt Mert has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tchin Fortessi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mert jumps guard but Fortessi stands there with Mert around his waist. Mert gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tchin Fortessi.
Well Fortessi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
