PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Shouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Fierro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Luis Fierro will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Shouse !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luis Fierro!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shouse closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shouse lands in his opponent's guard.

Fierro is working an open guard so Shouse takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Shouse looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Shouse controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Fierro really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shouse . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Joshua Shouse wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Fierro ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Shouse misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Shouse rushes Fierro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shouse works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Shouse drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shouse jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shouse is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shouse accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shouse pushing down on Fierro's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Shouse seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Shouse trying to mount his opponent but Fierro defends it.
Fierro makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fierro.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shouse is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shouse passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Shouse stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Shouse scores a takedown into full mount!

Shouse working for a guillotine from mount but Fierro is in no mood to give up.
Shouse sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joshua Shouse dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Shouse throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Fierro darts in trying to clinch

and Shouse counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Fierro!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shouse sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Shouse seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fierro for as long as he can get away with.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Shouse is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fierro can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shouse misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Shouse is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Fierro is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Fierro flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Shouse anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Fierro and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Shouse slips an arm under Fierro chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Shouse has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Shouse is squeezing on Fierro like an anaconda would it's prey. Fierro fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Joshua Shouse !
