PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rafael Gaucho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cesar Dominguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gaucho comes to the cage accompanied by Accardipane vs. Ballon-Go West. Dominguez has chosen The Unforgiven by MetallicA as his entrance music. The key to victory for Rafael Gaucho has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Gaucho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cesar Dominguez!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dominguez gets the takedown into side control.
Dominguez wants to control but Gaucho is keeping him busy.

Dominguez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Gaucho to his feet.

Dominguez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gaucho's guard.
Gaucho keeping moving, preventing Dominguez from controlling successfully.
Dominguez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dominguez trying to control the position from guard on top but Gaucho is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dominguez wants to pass the guard but Gaucho is keeping the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dominguez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dominguez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Gaucho throws a head kick that misses.
Dominguez shoots in but no luck this time.
Gaucho scores with the left hand. Dominguez knows he should have avoided that one.
Dominguez shoots in looking for a takedown but Gaucho manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dominguez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Gaucho tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dominguez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gaucho somewhat.

and Gaucho counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Cesar Dominguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dominguez is looking to land body kicks.
Gaucho throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Dominguez's head.
Dominguez shoots in looking for a takedown but Gaucho manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dominguez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rafael Gaucho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cesar Dominguez.
Dominguez fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Gaucho is out of range.
Gaucho lands with a kick to the temple. Dominguez shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dominguez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gaucho defends it nicely.

and Gaucho counters with a nice body kick.
Gaucho tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dominguez swivels and escapes.
Dominguez shoots in looking for a takedown but Gaucho manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dominguez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Dominguez shoots in for a takedown but Gaucho shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dominguez takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Dominguez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gaucho to the ground. Dominguez is now in Gaucho's guard.

Gaucho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dominguez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dominguez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gaucho is adopting a defensive guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gaucho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dominguez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dominguez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Dominguez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gaucho!
Dominguez trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Dominguez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gaucho is surviving well by controlling Dominguez's body position as best he can.
Gaucho tries to hold on but Dominguez pushes him away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Dominguez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dominguez throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Gaucho is looking to get to half guard.
Gaucho slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cesar Dominguez dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Dominguez tries for a takedown but Gaucho sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gaucho keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Dominguez takes a kick to the side of the head.
Gaucho lands with a nice combination. Dominguez backs away looking to recover.
Dominguez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Dominguez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Dominguez shoots in and drives through. Gaucho sprawls well.
Rafael Gaucho has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cesar Dominguez.

Dominguez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gaucho is trying to defend but Dominguez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dominguez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gaucho's head.

Dominguez is looking for a kimura but Gaucho is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dominguez to get the leverage.
Dominguez is breathing heavily.
Dominguez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Gaucho is looking to improve his position.

Dominguez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gaucho is just riding it out for now. Dominguez eventually gives up the hold.

Dominguez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Dominguez wants to take a breather but Gaucho is having none of it.

Dominguez seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Gaucho is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

In his post fight interview, Cesar Dominguez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
