PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Keimah Dama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Sterling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dama's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Seek n Destroy. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Keimah Dama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Sterling!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dama shoots in looking for a takedown. Sterling tries to sprawl out of it but Dama keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sterling manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fighters circle momentarily. Dama darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Sterling tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Sterling closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sterling lands in his opponent's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Dama has an active guard here but Sterling has managed to pass into half guard.
Sterling throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dama controlling the position for now.
Sterling not doing much here.
Sterling missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Sterling takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Joseph Sterling.
Dama throws a lazy uppercut

and Sterling counters with a single leg into guard. Dama didn't expect that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sterling is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dama is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sterling is controlling him.
Sterling tries to free his leg and advance position but Dama is retaining full guard.

Sterling drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dama dives on top into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sterling is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sterling manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dama manages to get himself to full guard.
Dama keeping full guard, as Sterling tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dama trying to keep a closed guard but Sterling is proving a slippery customer.
Sterling slips nicely into half guard.
Sterling looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Dama is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sterling scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dama is trying to control but can't.
Dama on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Sterling winds up and cracks Dama with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sterling has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sterling looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Dama is trying to control but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sterling perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Sterling dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dama lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Dama tries to clinch up.
Sterling blocks a jab.
Sterling keeps the fight on the outside.
Keimah Dama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sterling throws a hook but Dama blocks it.
Sterling takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dama looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dama lands with an uppercut that bounces Sterling off the cage and back into range.
Dama will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dama throws a combination that misses

and Sterling counters with a takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sterling postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Sterling is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dama has escaped the position, nice work there.
The referee asks Sterling politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sterling prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dama is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sterling has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Sterling cracks Dama with a big elbow.
Sterling looks up at the clock and then as Dama takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Sterling smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
You can see the frustration on Dama's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sterling controls the position from side control.
Sterling landing strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sterling working the ground and pound.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sterling in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Dama seems a little lost for a moment, as Sterling dominates the positioning.
Dama gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Sterling looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dama is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Sterling cracks Dama with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Dama is bucking up trying to escape but Sterling cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Sterling looking to control and managing it successfully.
A big strike lands for Sterling! That's really hurt Dama and he's turned his back - Sterling keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Sterling jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joseph Sterling!
After the fight, Joseph Sterling was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
