Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quinton Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ben Russel!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Russel.
Russel darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Russel throws a jab when Ellis was well out of range.
A slow jab from Russel misses its intended target.
Russel throws a big shot that misses.
Russel leaves Ellis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Russel gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ellis to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Russel looking for a sweep. Not yet Russel, not yet.
Ellis trying to control but Russel is working from the bottom.
Russel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ellis's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ellis holds on and takes a little breather.
Russel looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ellis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Russel defends well.

Russel is in close to Ellis's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Russel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ellis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Russelis looking to pass into half guard but Ellis pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ellis is in guard.
Russel trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Russel tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Russel keeping moving, preventing Ellis from controlling successfully.
Ellis tries to free his leg and advance position but Russel is retaining full guard.
Ellis wants to control from the top but Russel keeps moving.
Russel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ellis is one step ahead there.
Ellis trying to control the position from guard on top but Russel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

We're going to have a standup here because Quinton Ellis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ellis.

Ellis misses with a body shot.

Russel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Russel looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Russel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ellis keeps working.
Russel throwing shots but Ellis is blocking nicely.
Russel scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Ellis wants to improve his position but Russel is controlling well.
Russel wants to control but Ellis is keeping him busy.
Ellis is looking to control Russel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ellis avoid being mounted?
Russel not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Russel is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.


Ellis is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ellis is looking to improve his position.
Oh Ellis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Russel working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Russel is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Ellis is hurt! He's hurt bad - Russel fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Ellis from any more punishment! Congratulations to Russel! Great finish!
