And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kepy Svk!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin shoots for a double leg takedown but Svk sprawls well. He's pushed Karelin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Svk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
No luck for Karelin with that takedown attempt.

Svk gets a double leg takedown into Karelin's guard.
Svk trying to control but Karelin is working from the bottom.
Karelin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Karelin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Karelin tries to get out of the position.
Karelin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Karelin wants to stand and escape but Svk is having none of it.
Karelin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Svk wants to stand but Karelin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Karelin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Karelin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Karelin is breathing heavily.
Svk tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Karelin paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Svk shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Svk was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Karelin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Svk wants to finish this one by submission but Karelin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Svk.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Svk sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Karelin can't escape the position.

Karelin tries to hold on but Svk postures up.

Karelin tries to roll over but Svk keeps him under control.

Karelin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Svk is aware though and is defending well.
Karelin throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Svk stands up from Karelin's guard - Svk perhaps looking for a knockout.
No luck for Karelin with that takedown attempt.
Svk punishes Karelin's body with a nice straight punch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Karelin shoots in and gets a takedown into Svk's guard.
Karelin wants to pass the guard but Svk is keeping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Svk is trying to control the position but Karelin postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Svk escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Karelin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex Karelin will probably get the nod.

Karelin feints and as Svk raises his hands in defense, Karelin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Karelin prevents Svk from getting back to his feet.
Karelin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Svk has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karelin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Karelin throws a big right hand that misses.
Karelin wants to control from the top but Svk keeps moving.

Svk is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Karelin is aware though and is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Svk can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Karelin is looking to escape.

Karelin is squirming around, avoiding Svk's attempts to control the action.

Karelin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Karelin will probably get the nod.

Svk is pushing down on Karelin's leg trying to pass to half guard. Karelin is fighting to maintain full guard but Svk has managed to sneak the leg through.

Svk decides to stand and escape the position.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Karelin is defended easily by Svk.

Svk closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Svk lands in his opponent's guard.

Svk gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Karelin swats away the attempt to clinch by Svk.
Svk looks to clinch

so Karelin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Svk is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Karelin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Karelin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Svk is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Karelin.

Svk tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Svk has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Karelin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Svk wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

You can see the frustration on Karelin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Karelin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Svk.

Svk has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Karelin shoots in but Svk avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Svk shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Svk was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Svk manages to capitalize on a mistake by Karelin to take his back!
Svk doesn't have the hooks in and Karelin manages to turn into his guard.
Karelin is stalling in the full guard.
Svk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Karelin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Svk is proving hard to escape from.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Svk keeping moving, preventing Karelin from controlling successfully.
Kepy Svk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alex Karelin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
