PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Cantwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Beavis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Cantwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Beavis!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beavis tries for a takedown but Cantwell circles away easily
and Cantwell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cantwell shoots for a double leg takedown but Beavis sprawls well. He's pushed Cantwell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cantwell misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Beavis.

Cantwell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Beavis to the ground. Cantwell is now in Beavis's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Beavis has momentary wrist control but Cantwell slips an elbow through the middle.
Beavis will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Beavis looking for a sweep. Not yet Beavis, not yet.

Cantwell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Beavis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cantwell has managed to get both his arms back between Beavis's legs - danger averted.

Cantwell drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Beavis dives on top into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cantwell has control of Beavis's left arm, preventing Beavis from doing any damage.

Beavis is looking to stand up but Cantwell won't let him.
Cantwell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Beavis wants to stand but Cantwell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Beavis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cantwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Beavis is fighting to break Cantwell's control of his arms but Cantwell is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Steve Cantwell wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cantwell closes the distance and clinches up with Beavis, looking for a takedown. Cantwell pushes Beavis against the cage but Beavis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Beavis slaps away a takedown attempt from Cantwell, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Cantwell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Beavis throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Cantwell's head.

Cantwell throws out a loose jab but Beavis uses good head movement to avoid it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Beavis is staying active underneath Cantwell, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Beavis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cantwell's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cantwell's back!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Beavis steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Cantwell. That one must have hurt.

Cantwell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Cantwell takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Cantwell throwing shots but Beavis is blocking nicely.
Cantwell throws a strike but Beavis avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Beavis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cantwell defends it easily.
Cantwell is working Beavis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Beavis wants to stand up but Cantwell is controlling him.

We're going to have a standup here because Steve Cantwell wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cantwell finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Beavis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cantwell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Beavis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cantwell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Cantwell is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Beavis has managed to escape the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Beavis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Cantwell lands a head kick. Beavis smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Kevin Beavis has been cut.
Beavis throws a series of punches but Cantwell moves out of range.

Cantwell throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cantwell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cantwell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Beavis tries to avoid it but Cantwell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Beavis to the ground. Beavis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cantwell pushes Beavis off looking to stand but Beavis dives back in and keeps control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Let's hope that Beavis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Kevin Beavis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Steve Cantwell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Beavis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cantwell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Beavis.

Well Cantwell has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
