Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kody Talley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryo Yoshimitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kody Talley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Yoshimitsu!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Talley throws a sloppy head kick

and Yoshimitsu counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Yoshimitsu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Talley misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Talley has closed the distance and engaged Yoshimitsu in a clinch.

Talley fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Talley wants a takedown.

Yoshimitsu breaks the clinch.
Yoshimitsu shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Yoshimitsu shoots in but no luck this time.
Yoshimitsu is trying hard to land a takedown here. Talley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kody Talley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryo Yoshimitsu.

Talley manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Talley is trying to keep Yoshimitsu in close.
Talley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yoshimitsu manages to get himself to full guard.
Talley might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Talley is looking to work some ground and pound but Yoshimitsu has wrist control.

Talley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yoshimitsu on the ground.

Talley looking to sit in guard and control but Yoshimitsu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Yoshimitsu is pushing down on Talley's leg trying to pass to half guard. Talley is fighting to maintain full guard but Yoshimitsu has managed to sneak the leg through.

Yoshimitsu is trying to control. Talley wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yoshimitsu is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Talley reverses the position - he's now on top in Yoshimitsu's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Talley shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Yoshimitsu sprawls well. Yoshimitsu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Talley gets slowly back to his feet.
Ryo Yoshimitsu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yoshimitsu shoots in for a takedown but Talley shows good takedown defense.

Kody Talley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryo Yoshimitsu.

Yoshimitsu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Talley to the ground. Yoshimitsu is now in Talley's guard.

Kody Talley has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

and Talley counters with a nice kick to the body.

Talley closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Talley lands in his opponent's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Yoshimitsu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Talley as he jumps to the side.

Talley rushes Yoshimitsu and presses him up against the cage.

Talley tries to score a body lock takedown but Yoshimitsu shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Talley is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Yoshimitsu is defending well for now.

Yoshimitsu wants the takedown. Talley is fighting it off but Yoshimitsu persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Talley's guard against the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kody Talley will probably get the nod.
That's time! Talley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Talley throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Yoshimitsu tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Talley is in Yoshimitsu's guard.
Yoshimitsu is looking to stand up but Talley isn't so interested in that idea.
Talley has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Talley working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Yoshimitsu is looking for a triangle but Talley pushes his legs off easily.
Kody Talley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Yoshimitsu is working an open guard so Talley takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Yoshimitsu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Talley has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Yoshimitsu avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Talley jumps guard but Yoshimitsu turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Yoshimitsu has picked Talley up - he's going for a ride! Yoshimitsu dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Talley looks like he's trying to stand up.

Yoshimitsu is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Yoshimitsu looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Yoshimitsu is trying to control the action in half guard but Talley is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ryo Yoshimitsu hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Talley shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Yoshimitsu napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Talley decides to stand up, so the ref orders Yoshimitsu to his feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Yoshimitsu crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Talley - the referee stops the clock and Yoshimitsu gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Talley. Yoshimitsu manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Talley decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Yoshimitsu is staying active underneath Talley, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Yoshimitsu is looking to escape.
Talley tries to stand and escape but Yoshimitsu is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Talley wants to work for an arm triangle but Yoshimitsu is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Yoshimitsu is pressing down on Talley's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Yoshimitsu looking for a sweep. Not yet Yoshimitsu, not yet.

Yoshimitsu pushes Talley off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Yoshimitsu gets tackled into the cage by Talley. Talley maintains the clinch.

Yoshimitsu prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kody Talley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Talley is trying to break the clinch but Yoshimitsu has him pressed against the cage.

Yoshimitsu turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Talley is not content to let Yoshimitsu control the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ryo Yoshimitsu.
Well Talley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
