Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Azumah Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson shoots for a double leg takedown but Alvarez sprawls well. He's pushed Nelson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Alvarez comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Alvarez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nelson. Nelson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Alvarez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A shot to the liver by Alvarez. Beautiful body shot.
Nelson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nelson walks into a stiff left hand from Alvarez.
Alvarez slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Good shot there by Alvarez.

Nelson scores with a takedown into Alvarez's guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Alvarez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nelson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nelson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Alvarez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Alvarez is trying to control the position but Nelson postures up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alvarez is on top in guard.

Alvarez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working.

Nelson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Alvarez scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alvarez seems to be looking for submissions.

Nelson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nelson tries to get out of the position.
Alvarez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Alvarez throwing shots but Nelson is blocking nicely.
Alvarez working over Nelson with some ground and pound. Nelson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Nelson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alvarez on the ground.
Alvarez misses with a head shot. Nelson uses the momentum to regain guard.
Alvarez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Nelson is trying to keep Alvarez in close.

Alvarez passes Nelson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Alvarez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Alvarez works his foot free and advances to mount.
Nelson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Poor strikes thrown by Alvarez there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Alvarez unloads with some shots from mount but Nelson bucks and avoids them well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Alvarez working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Nelson turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Alvarez off and cradles Nelson's limp body as Alvarez celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Nick Alvarez!
Nick Alvarez was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
