PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mad Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam Nate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mad Child!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Liam Nate!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nate takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Nate dodges the punch combination from Child.
Nate shoots in for a takedown but Child shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Child tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nate paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Child. No joy for Nate on that attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Child. Those never looked like landing.
Nate shoots in and drives through. Child sprawls well.
Mad Child has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Nate.
Nate fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Child avoids it really well and circles away.
Nate misses with a hook
and Child counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nate fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nate stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Child scores with a crisp jab that stopped Nate in his tracks.
Child tries to bum rush Nate with a series of wild strikes but Nate uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nate.
A nice combination there by Child.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nate looks for a takedown but Child sprawls well.
Child lands with a good body shot.
Child throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Nate counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Nate is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Child wants to stand and escape but Nate is having none of it.
Nate trying to control but Child is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Liam Nate wasn't active enough on the ground.
Child lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Child throws a series of punches but Nate avoids them all with ease.
Nate connects with a single shot there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nate lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Child ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Child keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Child throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nate circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nate throws a looping overhand right but Child ducks down to avoid it.
A nice combination there by Child.

Child gets caught napping as Nate dives in and scores a takedown. Child manages to retain guard.
Child wants to sweep but no luck.
Nate sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Child not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Nate gets to his feet - Child follows without any prompting.

Child gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nate trying to control but Child is working from the bottom.
Child working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nate.

Nate decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Child fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nate shoots in for a takedown but Child shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Child stuffs the takedown.
Nate ducks right into an uppercut from Child.
A combination from Child does no damage.
Child throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Liam Nate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Some wild striking there from Nate.
Nate tries to score a power double leg takedown but Child sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nate somewhat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nate closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Nate looks gassed!
Child seems a little lost for a moment, as Nate dominates the positioning.
Child is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Nate has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Child stops Nate from passing to mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Child sneaks back into half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nate postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Child to stand up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nate dives in and grabs Child's left leg, looking for a takedown. Child pushes down on Nate's head and hops out.
Nate avoids a punch combination nicely.
Child keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liam Nate dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nate closes the distance and clinches up with Child, looking for a takedown. Nate pushes Child against the cage but Child circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Nate tries to keep at a distance but Child has taken the fight into the clinch.
Nate is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Child pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mad Child has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Nate.

Child breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nate lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Child circles away quickly and effectively.
Child fails to land with a series of punches.
Child tries to bum rush Nate with a series of wild strikes but Nate uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Child rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Nate moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Child being controlled here, momentarily.
Nate trying to control the position from guard on top but Child is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nate wants to pass the guard but Child is keeping the position.
Liam Nate has got the better of the ground game so far.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Liam Nate hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Nate slips a jab and a cross from Child.
Child fails in his attempt to clinch.
Child throws a shot to the body.
Nate lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Nate avoids a punch combination nicely.

Child is looking to clinch but Nate is avoiding it.
Child displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nate.
Nate closes the distance and clinches up with Child, looking for a takedown. Nate pushes Child against the cage but Child circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Nate is breathing heavily.
Nate dives in and grabs Child's left leg, looking for a takedown. Child pushes down on Nate's head and hops out.
Mad Child is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nate shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Child defends it nicely.
Child tries to clinch there but Nate circles away.

Child throws a right hand that Nate ducks under and follows up with a left that Nate also avoids with ease.
A combination from Child does no damage.
Child slaps away a takedown attempt from Nate, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Child scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Nate breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mad Child is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Child misses with a series of wild punches.
Nate closes this distance looking for a takedown but Child circles away.
Child will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Child throws a nice looking combination but Nate bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nate throws a hook to the side of Child's head but Child sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Child scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Child displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nate.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Child is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mad Child will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mad Child has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Nate.
A head kick from Child lands but Nate takes it in his stride.
Child tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Nate shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nate takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nate sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Child defending well though.

Nate is looking to take a break and control but Child is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Child is trying to get back to full guard.
Child won't allow Nate to pass to mount.
Child tries to kick Nate off but Nate keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Nate works his foot free and advances to mount.
Nate throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Nate misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Nate tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Nate stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Child throws a right and a left that both miss.
Child swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Child fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mad Child is winning the standup battle so far.
Nate circles away from the clinch attempt
and Nate counters with a one-two to the body.

Nate closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Child did well to prevent Nate getting side control.

Nate wants to control from the top but Child keeps moving.
Nate throws a big elbow that misses.

Liam Nate has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Child misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Child moves forwards but Nate connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Nate shoots in and drives through. Child sprawls well.
Nate fails with a takedown attempt.
Child throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nate lands with a cross.
Child tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nate paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nate might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Child closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Nate shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Child as he jumps to the side.

Nate shoots in but no luck this time.
Child throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nate.
Child misses with a jab, cross combination.
Child slaps away a takedown attempt from Nate, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Child doesn't manage to clinch there - Nate circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Liam Nate comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nate has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Liam Nate rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
