Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gichin Funakoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pasi Nurminen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Funakoshi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Martial Art Drum Beat. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funakoshi throws a hook but Nurminen avoids it easily.

Nurminen throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Funakoshi counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Nurminen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Pasi Nurminen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A relieved looking Gichin Funakoshi thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
