PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Angelo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Archibald Tuttle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuttle is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by RAWR. Archibald Tuttle will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Angelo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Archibald Tuttle!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Angelo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Tuttle was covering up waiting for the punch and Angelo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Tuttle is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angelo stopping the sweep attempt from Tuttle.
Tuttle can't keep his opponent in guard - Angelo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Tuttle is defending against the submission attempts here by Angelo.

Angelo is looking for a kimura but Tuttle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Angelo to get the leverage.
Tuttle moves into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Angelo pushing down on Tuttle's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Tuttle is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Tuttle is trying to stand.

Angelo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tuttle is just riding it out for now. Angelo eventually gives up the hold.
Tuttle regains full guard. Nicely done.
Angelo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tuttle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tuttle looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tuttle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Angelo looking to pass the guard.

Angelo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tuttle is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Angelo, into his guard.

Tuttle stands up and waves to Angelo to follow him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Angelo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Tuttle is pressing down on Angelo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tuttle trying to keep a closed guard but Angelo is proving a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Tuttle is trying to control the position but Angelo postures up.
Angelo wants to pass the guard but Tuttle is keeping the position.
Tuttle manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Angelo manages to get himself to full guard.

Angelo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tuttle can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Angelo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tuttle defends well.

Tuttle gets to his feet. Angelo looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Angelo looking to score a takedown here. Tuttle is defending well but Angelo drives through and ends up in Tuttle's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Angelo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tuttle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Angelo dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Angelo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Tuttle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Angelo's guard.

Tuttle wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Angelo's closed guard. He's half up but Angelo has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Angelo pivots and extends the arm, Tuttle falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Angelo! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mike Angelo!
Mike Angelo retains his featherweight title!
Mike Angelo really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Hopkins Athletics logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
