The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funkyama scores with a jab. Martel acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Funkyama dodges the punch combination from Martel.
No luck for Martel with that takedown attempt.
Martel takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Martel tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Martel closes the distance looking to clinch
and Funkyama counters with a thumping low kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Martel takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Martel looks gassed!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Funkyama - that will leave a mark!
Martel avoids a punch combination nicely.
Martel closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Funkyama tests Martel's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Steve Funkyama is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Funkyama cracks the inside of Martel's front leg.
Funkyama fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Martel.
Rick Martel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Funkyama fakes the leg kick and cracks Martel in the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Funkyama lands a big head kick that sends Martel tumbling to the mat! Funkyama takes a step backwards and waves Martel back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Martel is rocked!
Martel drops his hands momentarily and Funkyama needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips Martel just on the top of the head. Martel drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in Martel - he's done!
