PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Spede Jussi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leroy Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Spede Jussi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leroy Morris!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jussi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Morris sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jussi somewhat.
Morris tries for a takedown but Jussi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Morris fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Morris looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Spede Jussi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leroy Morris.
Morris will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jussi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Morris is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Jussi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jussi lands strikes from half guard.
Morris wants to improve his position but Jussi is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Morris has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jussi is working away from the top position though.
Morris pushes Jussi off looking to stand but Jussi dives back in and keeps control.
Jussi is nestled in close to Morris, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jussi is just content to waste time from the top position. Morris takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Morris wants to get back to his feet but Jussi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jussi throws a big elbow that misses.
Jussi wants to control from the top but Morris keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Morris has momentary wrist control but Jussi slips an elbow through the middle.
Morris managing to control the position.
Jussi lands a couple of digs.
Jussi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Morris keeping moving, preventing Jussi from controlling successfully.

Morris working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jussi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jussi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jussi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Morris manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jussi has Morris in his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Morris trying to control the position from guard on top but Jussi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Morris throwing strikes from guard but Jussi blocks nicely.
Jussi wants to sweep here but Morris controlling him for the moment.
Jussi has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Morris has passed into side control.
Jussi is trying to buck Morris off.

Morris tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Morris has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jussi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Morris wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Morris misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Morris is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jussi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Morris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jussi keeps working.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Morris is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Jussi is trying to escape and Morris transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Jussi is forced to tap! Nice work there by Morris! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Leroy Morris!
