PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grani Klang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross has chosen The New Black by Every Time I Die as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grani Klang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Cross!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Klang showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cross.
Cross looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Klang with a hook.
Klang looks to land a combination. Cross sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Cross uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Klang.
Grani Klang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Klang closes the distance and clinches up with Cross, looking for a takedown. Klang pushes Cross against the cage but Cross circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Klang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Klang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Klang throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cross because Klang loaded up on that one.
Cross keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cross is trying to stand up.
Cross avoids a series of strikes thrown by Klang.
Klang has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Cross's face.
Cross wants to hold on but Klang pushes him away.
Klang lands with some strikes.
Klang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Klang tries to control but Cross wriggling away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cross working to try and regain half guard.
Klang lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Cross is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Klang tries to control but Cross wriggling away.
Klang avoids the attempt from Cross to control.
Klang throws some wild stikes that Cross manages to avoid easily.

Klang moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cross has worked his arm free - good work by Cross!

Klang goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cross rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Klang's guard! Nice work there by Cross!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cross wants to control from the top but Klang keeps moving.
Klang manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cross manages to get himself to full guard.
Klang passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Klang controls the position.

Klang tries for a kimura but Cross is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cross is not content to let Klang control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Klang thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Cross's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sloppy strikes there by Klang.
Cross is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Cross manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Klang drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cross manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Klang has Cross in his guard.
Cross passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Klang is breathing heavily.
Cross has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Klang!
Cross fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cross trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Cross with shots to the head and body - Klang looks very uncomfortable down there.
Cross postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Klang looks a forlorn figure.
Cross prevents Klang from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grani Klang dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A combination from Cross does no damage.
Klang shoots for a takedown but Cross saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jab by Klang.
Cross scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Klang tries for a takedown but Cross circles away easily

and Cross counters with a series of strikes that sends Klang to the canvas! Cross follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!


Klang is rocked!
Cross trying to control the position from guard on top but Klang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cross gets to his feet. Klang looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Klang misses the jab.
Cross slips a jab from Klang.
Cross throws a series of punches but Klang avoids them all with ease.

Klang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cross wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Klang.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cross taking shots to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Klang misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Klang swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cross is now in Klang's guard. A big mistake from Klang there, giving up the dominant position!

Klang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cross can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Klang trying to keep a closed guard but Cross is proving a slippery customer.
Klang looking for a sweep. Not yet Klang, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cross is sitting in close to Klang's body. Klang has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Cross is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Cross is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Klang.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Grani Klang!
