The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brandao shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Szmyt counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Szmyt.
Brandao tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Szmyt jumps guard and drags Brandao to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Szmyt is striking but Brandao is not phased and passes to half guard.

Brandao is working for a kimura but Szmyt is defending it quite comfortably.

Brandao is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Szmyt has managed to free his arm - good work.
Brandao thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Szmyt's head.

Brandao has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
