PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carson Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cees Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Carson Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cees Gunn!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood fails to land with a series of punches.

Gunn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wood might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gunn tries for a kimura but Wood is defending well.

Gunn has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Wood lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
The fight stays on the outside here - Wood looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wood closes the distance and clinches up with Gunn, looking for a takedown. Wood pushes Gunn against the cage but Gunn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carson Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wood scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Gunn tries for a takedown but Wood sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Wood looks to land a combination but Gunn avoids it well.

Wood works over Gunn's head and body with a nice combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Wood.
Wood could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Wood defending well as Gunn loads up on a big left hand.
Wood moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Wood lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gunn circles away quickly and effectively.
Wood misses with a wild combination.
Wood lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Gunn has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gunn there as he acknowledges the shot.

Wood moves into the clinch.
Wood misses with a body punch.

Gunn pulls Wood into guard.

Wood got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gunn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wood has managed to get both his arms back between Gunn's legs - danger averted.

Wood postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Gunn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wood with a flurry of punches that miss.

Gunn pushes Wood off and gets back to his feet.

Gunn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Gunn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Wood moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Wood doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Gunn trying to control but Wood is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wood looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gunn puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cees Gunn will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Wood is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gunn sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Wood misses with a jab, cross combination.
Carson Wood is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wood throws a series of punches but Gunn avoids them all with ease.

and Gunn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wood tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Gunn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wood is fending him off so far but Gunn persists. Nope, Wood circles away and we're back to standing.
Carson Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cees Gunn.

and Gunn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wood wants to hit a switch here but Gunn passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wood there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wood wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wood trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Wood rolls, trying to escape but Gunn keeps control of the position.
Gunn struggling to keep hold of the position.
Wood tries to roll but Gunn sticks to his back.
Gunn misses with a punch to the head.

Wood is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Gunn working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Gunn is breathing heavily.

Wood rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Wood wants to get back to full guard but Gunn has mounted him!
Gunn throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Wood because Gunn loaded up on that one.
Wood tries to reverse the position but Gunn maintains control.

Gunn looking to score a takedown here. Wood is defending well but Gunn drives through and ends up in Wood's guard.

Wood looking for a sweep. Not yet Wood, not yet.
Wood wants to stand up but Gunn is controlling him.

Gunn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gunn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Wood looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Gunn has picked Wood up and slammed him! Wood can't keep hold of the triangle and Gunn manages to pass to side control!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cees Gunn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Wood drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gunn gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Gunn tries to pull guard but Wood forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wood accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wood wants to pass the guard but Gunn is keeping the position.

Gunn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wood wants to control from the top but Gunn keeps moving.
Gunn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wood's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wood is on top in guard.
Wood throws a big right hand that misses.

Gunn has his feet on Wood's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Wood lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gunn circles away quickly and effectively.
Wood scores with a one two! Gunn had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Gunn slips a jab and a cross from Wood.

Wood moves into the clinch.

Gunn manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wood tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wood has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gunn controls Wood momentarily but Wood frees himself.
Carson Wood has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cees Gunn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Wood working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Carson Wood showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Gunn has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
